Ma formation première étant linguistique (licence-master-doctorat en langue et littérature arabes), je ne pouvais pas tellement passer l’occasion d’utiliser la calligraphie arabe dans le tatouage… Il y a déjà certains tatoueurs de par le monde qui font un travail magnifique, mais je vois encore trop de tatouages qui utilisent une police d’écriture standard (façon Word), ce qui sont pour moi autant d’occasions ratées de faire quelque chose de beau avec les 14 siècles de tradition calligraphique de cette langue. Je ne suis pas calligraphe professionnelle, loin de là, mais j’ai des logiciels qui m’aident, et je fais aussi du “free-style” (comme l’image ci dessus).

As my primary training was in linguistics (bachelor’s-master’s-doctorate in Arabic language and literature), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use Arabic calligraphy in tattooing… There are already some tattoo artists around the world who do magnificent work, but I still see too many tattoos that use a standard (Word-style) font, which for me are all missed opportunities to do something beautiful with the language’s 14 centuries of calligraphic tradition. I’m not a professional calligrapher, far from it, but I have software that helps me, and I also do free-style work (like the image above).

وبما أن تدريبي الأساسي كان في اللغويات (بكالوريوس – ماجستير – دكتوراه في اللغة العربية وآدابها)، لم أستطع تفويت فرصة استخدام الخط العربي في الوشم… هناك بالفعل بعض فناني الوشم في جميع أنحاء العالم الذين يقومون بعمل رائع، لكنني ما زلت أرى الكثير من الوشوم التي تستخدم خطًا قياسيًا مملّة، والتي تعتبر بالنسبة لي فرصًا ضائعة للقيام بشيء جميل مع تقاليد الخط العربي التي تعود إلى 14 قرنًا من تقاليد اللغة العربية. أنا لستُ خطاطاً محترفاً، فأنا لستُ خطاطاً محترفاً، بل أنا بعيد كل البعد عن ذلك، ولكن لدي برنامج يساعدني، كما أنني أقوم بأعمال حرة (مثل الصورة أعلاه).
